For You They Signed
By Marilyn Boyer
Ever wonder about the men who wrote and signed the Declaration of Independence? Do you know they put their very lives on the line in order for our country to be free? Do you have any idea what kind of men they were - what they held important, what future they saw for our country, their reasons behind signing the Declaration? If not, pick up this book. There is a biography of each of the signers included. Marilyn Boyer put in a great amount of research and time to write this book and it is definitely a must have for every family.

The Mark of the Lion series
by Francine Rivers
My all time favorite author of historical fiction. She brings to life the time period when Jews were taken captive by Romans and brought out of their homeland to face slavery in a foreign land. The way she weaves history with a wonderful story will leave you unable to put down this series of books!

The Harbinger
by Jonathan Cahn
The subtitle is "The Ancient Mystery that holds the Secret of America's Future. That about sums it up. In this compelling book Cahn relates what happened to ancient Israel to what is happening right now in America. The similarities are striking and cause you to stop and consider what really is going to happen to America if we continue to turn away from God. A must read for everyone!

The Me I Want To Be . . .
by John Ortberg
This is undeniably my favorite book right now. I am still not quite finished because I have to read some and then let it process and soak in for a while. To show how much I like it, I titled my website after a part in this book.
One thing that turned me on to this book is how freeing it is. There are so many books out there that tell us how our spiritual life should look. Not this one. Sure, he agrees with importance of spiritual disciplines in life such as quiet times, prayer times, worship and the like. But he recognizes that each person has their own personality which lends to a unique spiritual life. He also emphasizes the fact that different seasons of life change how our spiritual disciplines might fit in.
For instance, a mom of preschoolers may not be able to spend an hour reading her Bible and then journal and another hour in prayer like an empty-nester might. Not only that but John Ortberg reminds us that the Holy Spirit is a powerful force available to us each and every moment of our lives and we too often underestimate our potential because we don't dip into that flow.
Another reason I love this book is that John Ortberg takes the time to express how good our desires are. All too often, as Christians, we shy away from desiring anything, thinking it's selfish and not God-honoring. And there are those desires. But this book reminds us that our desires can lead us to a closer relationship with God and, in fact, to the exact purpose for our lives that God has set out for us.
This is not a book to get from the library! Buy your own copy. The fun part of it is that the cover comes in numerous colors to suit all of our unique likes! Enjoy!

The Kingdom Series
By Chuck Black
These books are created for boys of all ages. We enjoyed reading them out loud as a family. There are six books in the series and they are all about knights and battle. The great thing about them is that they follow the happenings of the Bible, just written into a different time period. Each chapter has questions to answer about who the characters represent from the Bible or what the wars or events represent. A great way to enjoy a good read and learn a little more about your Bible.
